The Only 3 Types Of Healthy Morning Rituals You Need For Your Week

Having consistency in life is something that many of us strive for. Not only does it alleviate the headache of constantly making decisions, but it also helps with overall flow. By eliminating mental noise, you can become more immersed in the activity you are doing instead of battling against it.

Find Both Flexibility & Consistency In Your Life With These 3 Routines

In this article, we’ll go over 3 morning rituals that can change your life in a very subtle and simple way.

I find these 3 morning practices help me navigate through chaotic weeks and calm weeks while also giving me the flexibility to change what my mind and body need.

The “Workout” Morning Routine

If you’re anything like me, you feel like you have to get your body moving at least 3 times a week to feel like a normal human. So, for this practice, I find doing it on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to be the most beneficial. It kickstarts my week, it gets me through hump day and it offers me a chance to finish the work week strong.

How To Do The “Workout” Morning Routine

  1. Get your workout clothes ready to go the night before. If you do this, you’re already setting yourself up for success! It can be hard to choose clothes as soon as you wake up, so make it easier on yourself.
  2. Choose your workout the night before. This helps you stick to your plan. Don’t leave your groggy self to choose what to do the morning of. Remember: eliminate making decisions when you can. Some of my favorites include the NTC app, Camp Gladiator and Kayla Itsines.
  3. Get up as soon as your alarm goes off. It all starts with making a habit of it. Although it can be hard sometimes, just remind yourself that you’ll feel SO much better afterwards.
  4. Drink 1 glass of water. Cleanse your system and proactively give your body what it needs: water.
  5. Brush your teeth. Get the pearly whites minty fresh for a quick pick-me-up!
  6. Get dressed and lace up. This one is pretty simple. Just get those clothes on you picked out already!
  7. Optional: Look in the mirror and tell yourself, “you got this!” Just by giving yourself some words of encouragement, you boost your morale and outlook for the day ahead.

The “At-Home” Morning Routine

Some days you just need a little mini TLC (tender loving care) session where you dedicate time for waking up the mind and body. Use this when you need a routine that slowly introduces you to a new day.

How To Do The “At-Home” Morning Routine

  1. Wake up. Consider waking up at the same time every time you do this ritual. It helps make the habit of dedicating this time to yourself.
  2. Drink 1 glass of water. Again, cleanse your body by flushing any toxins out of your body for a refreshing start to your day. Add in a spritz of lemon if you’re feeling fancy!
  3. Brush your teeth. Wake yourself up with a quick brushing session.
  4. Get dressed. Take time to dress in something comfortable, but something that will make you want to be productive and not sleepy!
  5. Choose 1 of the following activities to focus on for 30 minutes:
    1. Journaling – Journal what you want to focus on today, this week, this month or this year. Take the time to reflect on what you’ve learned and how to improve your overall wellbeing.
    2. Reading – Dive into that book you’ve waited to read and simply dedicate 30 minutes to it. My latest read is Where The Crawdads Sing. The perfect book to escape our modern lives.
    3. Listening – Listen to some of your favorite music or discover a new podcast about a topic you love. I’ve always found something interesting to listen to on the Ologies with Alie Ward podcast.

The “Surprise & Delight” Morning Routine

I love this morning routine because it works perfectly for that weekend morning when you just want some change and inspiration. It can take you from the “work” mindset and into the “play” mindset in a jiffy!

How To Do The “Surprise & Delight” Morning Routine

  1. Sleep in. Get some much needed sleep after a long week to wake up feeling restored.
  2. Drink your water & brush your teeth. You already know.
  3. Choose a fun and spontaneous activity to do: Use some of the following as inspiration!
    1. Go to a coffee shop you’ve never tried before
    2. Try out a new restaurant
    3. Go to a thrift store and find comfy outfit
    4. Stay home and do a craft
